The world-famous & Chinese famous Dragon Boat Festival also goes by the name Tuen Ng, is held on the 5th of the 5th lunar month. It is done to honor Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet and statesman known for his love for his country and contributions to traditional poetry. Following his death, Qu Yuan became a national hero.

The festival's two primary activities are feasting zongzi (rice dumplings) and participating in boat races, both of which have a dragon theme.

On the 5th of the 5th lunar month, offerings and sacrifices are flung into water sources to the Dragon God.

Activities during the festival:

Eating Zongzi

During the Dragon Boat Festival, zongzi is considered a common dish on the menu. Bamboo leaves construct the pyramid shape, and plant branches are used to knot the rice dumpling. The zongzi can even be made with a sweet and savory filling mixture.

Putting Incense Bags on

People used to wear incense bags around their necks to ward off diseases and plagues that were thought to be spreading around the time of the festival.

Using Wormwood and Calamus to Decorate Windows and Doors

Once again, this was a custom that was practiced in the hopes of warding off evil spirits, ensuring the well-being of the household, and even serving as a means of keeping various household pests at bay.
